On Monday 24 September 2007 the Great Brak Museum will commemorate the centenary of the local Passenger Railway Service with a fair.

Total Steamtrain 15 km ROADRACE

Hartenbos Harriers present this road race, which will start at 7 am at the Great Brak Station. There is a 15 km race to Glentana and back and a 5 km Fun Run. This race is featured on the SWD calendar. We are hoping to draw 100 entrants for both races. Volunteers for water point duty are required.

Stallholders must have their stalls ready by 9 am.

Stalls cost R20 each.

TRAIN SERVICE

On this Heritage Day Special the train will stop in Great Brak on its way to the main activities in Mosselbay and again on its way back to George. The Great Brak River coach will have a team leader on each leg. Each ticket(voucher) holder will receive a cold drink and party pack. [Please note that the first leg from George to Great Brak will carry the local Brass band who will entertain you and the last leg will be a special for Great Brak Pensioners.]

George to Great Brak River: Departs George 10.00 am,

Arrives 10.55 at Great Brak.

Great Brak River to Mossel Bay: Departs 11.13 am,

Arrives Mossel Bay 12.00 noon.

Mossel Bay to Great Brak River: Departs 14.15 pm,

Arrives Great Brak River 14.52 pm

Great Brak River to George: Departs 15.07 pm,

Arrives George 16.35 pm (Pensioners special).

FUN FOR KIDS

There will be a jumping castle and old fashioned and delicious toffee apples will be sold.

ART

Two works of the local artist Chris Spies will be up for sale on the website bidorbuy. Bids on these works called - the Tree of Knowledge and the Kaleidoscope Tree – can also be phoned in on 044 620 3338 and the bid must then be confirmed with a fax to 044 6203176

The income from the highest bid for one of the paintings will be donated to the Museum fund. Bidding will start at R7000.

MUSEUM CRAFTS WORKSHOP

A local group of unemployed people will be making aprons and several other (railway related) crafts. This they will be selling at the fair.

FOOD

The Transkaroo Restaurant (Used to be the Great Brak Train Station) will be providing delicious snacks, food and a barbecue throughout the day, as it is national Braaiday in South Africa.

The evening the restaurant will be serving a three-course meal with a choice of three dishes per course. The meal will be accompanied by the soft jazz sounds from the local band Shades of Blue and a pianist will be playing the piano as well.

Dress is informal with a black-and- white theme.

There are 65 (inside) places available and tickets are R100 each. Prizes will be given to the best-dressed couple.
